Aibel building nominated for “Building of the Year"

The new office building in Asker is one of three buildings nominated for the 2011 award.

The prize this year will be awarded to the project and not to the contractor, as in the past. The name of the winner will be made public on March 21 at the “ByggeGalla”.

A building to be proud of

Aibel is a tenant in the building and has been a central player in the project, together with the contractor who had the overall responsibilities, Skanska, and the owner of the building, Ferd Eiendom AS.

- Ferd’s vision is to create enduring values and leave clear footprints, and we have succeeded in doing so with this building. We believe that we have created a unique and visible building that we can be proud of for a long time, Knut Tolo, the project manager in Ferd Eiendom, says.

The Aibel building in Asker will be the first commercial building in Norway with the classification “Very Good” according to the Breeam Nor environmental standard. This certification includes a number of measures and solutions in order to create a modern and sustainable office building.

Local effort

-For the people in Asker, the new office park has provided a lift of the area. That is in line with the wishes of the politicians and as set out in the municipal zoning plan. Thoroughfares for pedestrians and cyclists have been improved in the area with a new bridge connection to Lensmannslia, Knut Tolo says.

The first building phase was delivered 1 December 2011. More than 700 Aibel employees will have their first day of work in the new building on Monday, 20 February. The official opening of the building will take place on 29 February 2012.

The new NVE building in Oslo and the Oseana Culture House in the municipality of Os in Hordaland County are the other two building projects that have been nominated for the award.
