Little damage after fire in new Aibel building
The fire was quickly extinguished and has not led to any major damage, according to Kristian Gudmundsen, who is project manager for the new building.
"I received an interim report yesterday evening. According to this, the fire probably started during roofing work. A gas flame was being used on the roofing and the underlying insulation caught fire," says Gudmundsen.
A lot of smoke
Those working on the roof had fire extinguishers available and put the fire out themselves in a matter of minutes.
"The fire caused a lot of smoke and both fire engine and ambulance were called out. Nobody was hurt," says Gudmundsen. He adds that the fire service used water to ensure that the fire could not flare up again.
Had to evacuate
A few weeks ago, 250 employees moved into the first of the two new buildings at Garpaskjærskaien. Many of them could see from their offices that there was a fire in building stage two.
"Obviously, it's never pleasant when something like this happens. We evacuated all the workers in a matter of minutes and there was no panic," says Gudmundsen.
Building stage two is planned to be ready in the autumn.
"Yesterday's fire will have no effect on the progress of the project," assures the project manager.
