Why 3D print?

The 3D printing technology has developed rapidly in recent years, thus making it relevant to bring into use in our industry as well, as it is at high technology readiness level. Among the advantages of 3D printing is the possibility to build complicated parts in short time with less material use compared to traditional production. It may also contribute to reduced lead time, better on-site repair, reduced component cost, use of alternative materials, optimized function, part repair and obsolete parts replacement. Reduced storage of physical spare parts is a goal, on demand ordering via digital files for 3D print is future.

How we do it

The pilot project is established with Equinor to serve primarily their M&M projects while further developing competence and expertise as well as good quality routines for 3D print. The project group is primarily based at Aibel's premises in Harstad with support and actual 3D print facilities from Norwegian sub suppliers, where developing suppliers in northern Norway is especially considered.
