New contract to Aibel

Aibel will carry out an extended concept study for the Veidnes terminal plant. The value of the Statoil contract is NOK 10 million.

“This is a strategic important contract for Aibel with regards to the growth in the northern areas,” says Stig Jessen, EVP Field Development at Aibel.

The contract, formerly known as the Skrugard onshore terminal, was awarded to Aibel 2 July.

The extended concept study will be executed by Aibel in Asker. About 15 engineers will be working on the project.

The project will be started immediately, with the main mobilisation taking place in mid-August. The contract includes options for further work.

An important achievement
This contract award is seen as recognition of the expertise held by Aibel with regards to facilities located in an arctic and harsh environment.

“We have successfully executed several similar studies during the last decades for Statoil and other oil companies. Being selected by Statoil once again to develop this concept, shows that we are a leading provider of new-builds on the Norwegian continental shelf,” says Jessen.

Facts
The concept includes a floating production unit with a pipeline to shore and a terminal for oil from the Skrugard field at Veidnes outside Honningsvåg in Finnmark.

Statoil’s ambition is to select the concept in 2013-2014, deliver a PDO (Plans for development and operations) in 2014-2015 and start production in 2019.

The terminal is expected to contribute considerable volumes in 2020.
