The substructure emerges

Construction of the DolWin Beta wind platform is currently at its most hectic.

Around 2,000 workers are hard at work at the Drydocks World yard in Dubai, where it is being built. Results are clearly visible. Dolwin Betas substructure is beginning to emerge. Towards the summer, both the undercarriage and deck of the platform will be completed. They will be connected in the course of the summer. Presently, around 60 per cent of construction work has been completed.

Very good safety results
The project recently celebrated two million completed work hours without incidents leading to lost work (LTI).

“We are very satisfied with the work Drydocks has done in terms of HSE. We see that they have good procedures and are particularly good at reviewing the work to be done in advance in order to determine and prevent risk,” says project manager Kjetil Jacobsen.

When finished, the platform will be as wide as a soccer court.

According to plan
In December Aibel's first wind platform will be moved from the yard in Dubai to the company's own yard in Haugesund.

“A lot of work is still to be done, but we will deliver. Now we are fully focused on the activities that lie ahead, both in terms of time, quality and not least safety,” the project manager says.

In Haugesund the platform will be equipped before moving to the Dolwin wind farm at Helgoland, in the German sector of the North Sea. ABB, who has overall project responsibility, will supply cable and conversion equipment. The platform will leave the yard in Haugesund in the summer of 2014.
