Aibel opens branch office in Harstad

Stavanger, Norway, 9th September 2010

Aibel AS is to open a branch office in Harstad. The new branch is a result of the company being awarded the maintenance contract for Norne this summer. The establishment of the branch will lead to new jobs in Harstad.

For Aibel it was only natural to open a branch in Harstad when we were awarded the Norne contract. The company already has seven separate branch offices along the coast. Harstad will thus become our eighth office in Norway. The establishment will lead to new jobs and a further strengthening of the oil and gas community in Harstad,’ says Jan Skogseth, President and CEO of Aibel AS.

Norne provides spin-off effects

After Aibel was awarded the Norne contract this summer, the company established a collaboration agreement with local company Momek. Both Aibel and Momek are currently looking for new associates.

In recent months Aibel has been awarded major new contracts, both in Norway and internationally. Growth has led to a significant need for new employees. During the next three to four years Aibel is planning to hire a total of 1000 new employees. ‘We are already on the lookout for people for the Harstad office and will do our utmost to hire local expertise as far as this is practically possible. During the initial phase we will however relocate most of the associates from other parts of the company,’ says Skogseth.

Aibel and Momek

The staffing plan indicates that the office will have approximately 40 employees. In addition, the contract will require offshore staff and staff related to prefabrication. Through the agreement Aibel has entered into with subcontractor Momek, it is given that these two companies will cooperate closely in order to deliver on the Norne contract.

Jarle Habbestad will head the new Aibel branch in Harstad.
