• The client’s requirements

Regardless of the size or complexity – Aibel has the answer

Flexible barriers

Ensuring a soft and controlled landing of swinging objects.

Flex1

Flexible barriers around laydown areas for crane operations have been in use for more than 20 years on offshore platforms in the North Sea.

Aibel has developed a new solution for flexible barriers to meet the updated requirements from the operating companies, called Flexible Crash Barriers and Flexible Truck Barriers.

Flex2

Proven concept
The barriers are full scale tested for impacts up to 40 KJ.

Four main models:
Low barrier, single sided (height 1.45 m)
Low barrier, double sided (height 1.45 m)
High barrier, single sided (height 3.20 m)
High barrier, double sided (height 3.20 m)

The Flexible Crash Barriers are currently sold to the following projects:
Gudrun, Statoil
Aasta Hansteen, HHI / Statoil
Aasta Hansteen LQ, Hertel / Statoil
Johan Sverdrup Drilling Platform, Statoil
Johan Sverdrup Living Quarter Platform, Kværner

The Flexible Truck Barriers are currently sold to the following projects:

Facts

 FLEXIBLE BARRIERS

  • Two main categories: Flexible Crash Barriers and Flexible Truck Barriers
  • Robust design and easy to install

  • Maintenance-free (stainless steel materials)

  • Improves safety in material handling and protection of surrounding equipment

  • Can replace existing aluminium flexi-barriers on same footprint with half the number of posts

  • Design impact energy: 36 kJ
    (8 t, 3 m/s) / 20 kJ

  • Compact design - minimum width, no items protruding behind the fixed post during operation

  • Use of visco-elastic shock absorbers/dampers
    (duplex material)

  • Tested full-scale to prove strength and fit-for-purpose/ function

  • Designed for integration of wind panels
