Through more than 100 years of history Aibel has gone from repairing ships to gaining a solid foothold in the oil and gas industry. In recent years, Aibel has also taken important steps into the renewable energy market.

In collaboration with ABB, Aibel has developed a new platform concept for the utilisation of offshore wind. This concept is based on proven technology, and is a good example of how Aibel uses its expertise and long experience to create new solutions.

Dolwin Beta
Dolwin Beta is Aibel’s first wind platform. It will serve a large wind farm cluster near Helgoland, in the German sector of the North Sea. The platform is a transformer station that will receive AC power from offshore wind farms and convert it to DC before sending it onshore via subsea cables. The platform has a gravity-based self-installing substructure attached to the seabed.

Hywind
Hywind Pilot Park, which is being built off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is the world's first floating wind park. It marks an important step forward for offshore wind technology and may open new and attractive global markets for production of renewable energy.

Through the Hywind project, Aibel is developing solutions for substructures for floating offshore wind turbines. The substructures will eventually be installed in the Hywind Scotland Pilot Park Wind Farm.
