Lead Instrumentation Engineer

Job responsibilities:

  • Report to and provide support to the Project Engineering Manager on assigned projects and report to the Section Manager at the basis level.
  • Define budget, schedule, scope of work, execute and co-ordinate all activities within own areas of responsibility.
  • Implement Company work processes, procedures and quality policy on the project as appropriate
  • Lead and supervision of engineering activities and to ensure that it is carried out in accordance with pertinent specifications, statutory and other contractual requirements, with due regard to safety, operability, maintainability and constructability aspects.
  • Ensure delivery of Instrumentation/Automaton Engineering scope and deliverables as per the budget and schedule requirements of the project.
  • Be responsible for technical integrity, quality and progress of assigned work
  • Establish, implement and maintain procedures and work instructions required by the discipline
  • Report technical status and progress for overall discipline scope of work or within the area of responsibility
  • Co-ordinate with other organisational units including fabrication, MC, commissioning and operation
  • Identify external/internal interface requirements and supply timely information to the agreed quality
  • provide manpower forecasts for the project in advance to the section manager and ensure that an optimal manning with adequate qualifications is maintained within his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Be aware of Company contractual requirements and Scope Boundaries.
  • Shall at all times encourage to and seek improvements to the projects cost and schedule
  • Is responsible for implement ISO 9001,ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001Participant in establishing of strategies, plans and activities that support Aibel AS objectives within relevant areas.
  • Responsible for HSE within the team
  • Ensure performance requirements are drawn up for his/her own subordinates, and that compliance with these is followed up.
  • Define and communicate need for IT systems and support
  • that his/her own subordinates, when required, hold updated job descriptions clearly describing their areas of responsibility, and for following up that this responsibility is attended to.
  • Ensure that appraisal interviews are carried out as decided by company management, for his/her own subordinates.

Work experience requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of experience in Instrumentation design engineering including a minimum of 10years of experience in Instrumentation engineering for offshore platforms or FPSO’s.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in E&I Instrument Engineer roles in offshore projects
  • Must have prior work experience with medium/ large sized green field projects in the offshore oil & gas industry and possess a good understanding of project phases, milestones, deliverables, internal and external interfaces.
  • Must have prior experience in working in reputed Engineering consultancies or Operator companies.
  • Must have prior experience in Co-ordinator


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering. Electrical or Chemical Engineers with relevant work experience as per above may also apply.

Other skills:

  • A self-starter who can work independently, make sound decisions, analyse problems and provide focused solutions.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of oil and natural gas industry standards such as, but not limited to, API (American Petroleum Institute), ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation),IEC, NORSOK, EU Directives ATEx, IECex requirements and other relevant standards related to Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Effective technical communication (verbal and written) skills with proven ability to present technical issues to design teams, client, technical authorities and verification bodies
  • A high level of energy and ability to work under pressure and complexity
