Project Commercial Manager

Job responsibilities:

The job holder will be assigned the position as Project Commercial Manager and may have, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure that project’s commercial and administrative requirements are fulfilled in an efficient manner.
  • Monitor adherence to the budget and perform cost trend analysis to execute the project within the budget and to ensure that project margin is maintained or improved.
  • Perform quantitative risk analysis, develop commercial strategies, and proactively engage with other functions to seek improvements to the project cost basis
  • Lead the quarterly EAC (Estimate at Completion) process by liaising with various functions, review with the project manager and present to the upper management for approval and finalization.
  • Update the cost on a regular basis, issue monthly cost report to the client and financial report to the upper management.
  • Timely submission of invoices and follow up for prompt payment and effective cash management.
  • Liaise with corporate treasury for forward planning and hedging as required to minimize / mitigate currency exposure.
  • Conduct commercial awareness sessions to the project team to have a common and correct understanding of contract requirements and to keep the team aware about commercial risks.
  • Subcontract management, including development of subcontract strategies for optimum price benefits, subcontract finalization, settlement of subcontract claims, and final close out.
  • Update quantities on a regular basis taking into consideration of the latest BOQs and design development.
  • Oversee change management process and ensure that claims are settled in a timely manner.
  • Lead project leadership discussions on a quarterly basis.
  • Drive improvement initiatives proactively, capture lessons learned throughout the project life cycle and record them for process improvements and best practices.
  • Oversee IT administration of the project.
  • Ensure seamless administration support to the project.
  • Close out of the contract including settlement of claims from all subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Train and develop juniors in the team.
  • Provide tender support on commercial matters on an ad-hoc basis.

Work experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 20 years (or master’s degree with 15 years) of experience in commercial / project control functions for Oil and Gas projects (FPSO / platform / refinery projects).
  • Must have minimum 5 years of experience in a managerial position.
  • Must have very good understanding on cost control, estimation, planning, contract & and subcontract management functions.
  • Preferred to have entire project cycle experience for EPC projects.


  • Must have bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.
