Chemring Nobel selects Aibel and Multiconsult for further planning of a potential new production facility

Chemring Nobel has selected Aibel and Multiconsult Norway as partners for the continued planning work on a potential new production facility for military explosives. This marks an important milestone in the project and will ensure progress and a safe, well coordinated execution in the next planning phase.

The need for increased production capacity is linked to the security policy situation in Europe and the necessity to strengthen defense capabilities in Norway and allied countries. Chemring Nobel is one of only two producers of advanced explosives in Europe, and Norwegian authorities have requested the company to expand its capacity in order to contribute to stable and sufficient deliveries to Norway and allied nations.

Extensive experience from complex industrial projects
The collaboration between Chemring Nobel, Aibel and Multiconsult brings together a strong professional environment for the further planning of a new production facility. The selection of Aibel and Multiconsult does not constitute a decision to proceed with construction. The project will still need to go through planning processes and studies before any final decision can be made regarding a possible establishment.

“Selecting Aibel and Multiconsult is an important step in the work to further develop the project basis. They add additional capacity, specialist expertise and experience from major industrial projects with stringent requirements for safety, quality and coordination. For Chemring Nobel, it is crucial to build a solid project team with strong execution capability. This provides a strong foundation for the continued planning work,” says Helge Husby, CEO of Chemring Nobel.

Aibel selected for industrial process expertise
Aibel has specialist expertise in the development, engineering and execution of critical infrastructure for the energy sector. Aibel will primarily contribute with competence within process plants, factory layout, project management and system understanding.

“We are proud that Chemring Nobel has selected Aibel as a partner in a major and important industrial initiative in Norway. With our experience from complex industrial projects with strict requirements for safety, environment and quality, we look forward to contributing to the development of a solid project basis that paves the way for safe and efficient execution,” says Mads Andersen, President and CEO of Aibel.

Multiconsult selected for expertise in major industrial and infrastructure projects
Multiconsult has been selected for its in depth expertise in consultancy, planning and execution of large industrial projects. Multiconsult will primarily contribute to work related to the factory site, infrastructure, buildings, and coordination of key technical disciplines in the planning phase.

“It is motivating to be selected as a partner for the continued planning work. Multiconsult will contribute its extensive experience from both industrial and defence facilities in various project phases, as well as broad experience from large scale projects,” says Ola Dalen, Project Director at Multiconsult Norway.

In the period ahead, Chemring Nobel, together with Aibel and Multiconsult, will continue working to define solutions in more detail, clarify needs and further develop the project basis. This work will contribute to a solid, knowledge based decision making foundation for the next stages of the project.
