Whilst the upstream oil and gas industry segment will remain Aibel’s core market for many years, we are in parallel developing solutions for the renewable energy sector, thus adapting our core competence to a low carbon future.
Aibel has in recent years established strong references in the European offshore wind market, having delivered the DolWin Beta platform, one of the largest wind power converter stations offshore Germany, converting more than 900MW of green electricity. We also supported Equinor in its Hywind Scotland floating wind power project, from design of the floating wind turbine substructures through to installation and commissioning support.
In May 2019, TenneT awarded the contract for the supply of the HVDC converter platform and onshore converter station for the DolWin 5 project to an Aibel/Keppel FELS consortium, with ABB responsible for delivering the HVDC electrical system. The project clearly demonstrates Aibel’s position as a preferred supplier in the market for transmission projects in the offshore wind industry.
The growing offshore wind market may provide Aibel and our partners many opportunities in months, years and decades to come, and Aibel will continue to develop attractive solutions to the renewable energy segment in parallel with the oil and gas business.
