A major player in the electrification of the Utsira High

As a part of the overall area solution for the Utsira High, Aibel was in summer 2020 awarded the EPCIC contract (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Completion) for electrification of Gina Krog. The assignment is to carry out modifications to prepare Gina Krog for operation with environmental-friendly electricity from the onshore power plant at Haugsneset.

The Power from Shore topside modifications include providing 30 MW power to the Gina Krog platform. This will fulfil the license requirements with regards to eliminate CO2 emissions and substitute all power provided with today’s existing gas turbine.

Aibel already plays a major role in the ongoing electrification of the entire Utsira area. For example, the company has delivered the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform and phase one of the onshore power plant at Haugsneset. Aibel is also well underway with phase two at Haugsneset as well as the company is building the Johan Sverdrup process platform P2.

Simultaneously with the Gina Krog contract, Aibel was awarded a similar contract for Sleipner. Both contracts are executed and managed from Aibel’s office in Stavanger, and are results of successful FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) deliveries in the first half of 2020.
